Consumer Fact Sheet

Fact Sheet
Consumer Protection and Industry Accountability

Our Beginning…
Established in 1990, the California Association of Mortgage Brokers (CAMB) today represents more than 4,500 industry professionals including licensed real estate brokers, salespersons, affiliated lenders and title companies whose primary business is assisting consumers in obtaining personal and commercial real estate financing and brokering loans.

CAMB protects consumers and supports industry professionals through the following activities:

  • Providing accredited continuing educational opportunities to raise industry standards.
  • Increasing consumer awareness of mortgage broker services.
  • Educating members about legislative and regulatory developments related to the industry.
  • Working to increase access to homeownership and housing affordability for all Californians.

Consumer Protection…
CAMB puts consumers first! As consumer advocates in the lending industry, CAMB members are committed to educating and supporting consumers to help them achieve the American Dream of homeownership. CAMB is dedicated to serving consumers in a manner reflecting honesty, honor and integrity.

Industry Accountability…
CAMB members adhere to a Code of Ethics, which represent the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct. The Code of Ethics prescribes honesty in advertising; confidentiality of the consumer’s personal information; strict compliance with all industry laws and the disclosure of any financial interest that brokers have in a loan transaction.

Statewide Chapters…
There are 19 regional CAMB chapters throughout California. Through local chapters, members are effectively kept up-to-date on the latest industry news, including state and federal legislative and regulatory developments, continuing education opportunities, consumer protection strategies and opportunities to serve the community.

Community Involvement…
All CAMB regional chapters are committed to serving their local communities. CAMB has recently launched its Preserving Home Ownership Initiative designed to educate consumers about their loan documents, or to answer questions to prepare consumers for the complicated process of homeownership.
